Oogy Wawa! (and if you don't know what that means, read on). Here's news of a special event passed along to me by my friends at Heavy Seas Brewing, and it concerns a special friend of many in the Baltimore, Maryland, beer world.
Many of you know that funny face above. It is Mick Kipp (aka Mick T. Pirate) from the Whiskey Island Spice Company. Mick was a staple at most of our Heavy Seas events, creating his delicious Cajun inspired dishes for everyone to enjoy. As you may know, Mick passed away earlier this year. This unexpected tragedy left him with some unfinished business - a promise to send his daughter Matoaka to college. So we'd like to help...
And, so can you
UPDATE: Originally we had planned a singular event on September 19th, International Talk Like a Pirate Day, to raise money for an education fund for Mick's daughter, Matoaka.
As with any nautical excursion, sometimes there is a change of course. We have decided not to do a special event on September 19th, but rather to celebrate his life by donating 10% of the net proceeds from our Beer & Bacon Fest and our next 3 festivals to Matoaka's education fund.

- "Oogy WaWah" and "Eat my Stuff" were trademarks, so to speak, of Mick Kipp. His legacy lives on.
- In case you weren't aware of it, International Speak Like a Pirate Day is a real thing. Read more: here.
- Caveat lector: As a representative for Select Wines, Inc. —a wine and beer wholesaler in northern Virginia— I sell the beers of Heavy Seas.
